Feel free to ask questions. For more than ten years we have been privileged to cook and cater for many amazing parties, wedding and corporate events. It is easy for us to nip any concerns in the bud so you can relax and enjoy your celebration without having to worry.
WHERE ARE WE LOCATED?
Fat and Skinny are a happy team of cooks based in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. We cater to customers located in Metro Melbourne and the Yarra Valley.
WHATS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
On the day of your celebration we will come to you with everything we need so you don’t have to worry about a thing. We will arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the start of your party with a cook, wait staff, cooking and serving equipment, white cocktail napkins and plenty of tasty food. All we need is your oven set to 180 degrees, as much bench space cleared as possible and a sink. Plus, your kitchen will be sparkling clean before we leave. All of this is included in our service- just like having a friend in the kitchen sorting everything out for you.
what's not included in the price
Any travel up to 45 minutes from our base is included in the prices listed. We may charge a travel fee based on hours of travel and number of staff if the travel time is more than 45 minutes. We may also charge car parking if none is provided.
Extra charges may apply if we need to hire cooking, cooling and/or cleaning equipment at venues that don't have basic kitchen facilities, and this is calculated on an individual basis. We are more than happy to work with you to design a menu that can limit these expenses.
HOW MANY GUESTS?
We have a minimum order of 40 guests for all our catering menus. We have cooked for celebrations with 40 people up to groups of 300 people. We are firm believers in the more the merrier – more food, more fun, more love, more everything.
WHO COOKS THE DELICIOUSNESS?
We make all of our tasty offerings from scratch in fresh batches just for you. Our dishes are prepared fresh with herbs, fruit and flowers from our kitchen garden, meat and poultry from our fabulous butcher, seasonal vegetables, and plenty of love. There are no mass produced ‘yellow’ food or dodgy shortcuts.
WILL THERE BE ENOUGH FOOD?
Oh God, yes! We take feeding people very seriously. The last thing we want is your guests having to do a Macca’s run because they are hungry. In the decade that we have been catering for large groups, we are yet to run out of food!
DO WE CATER FOR SPECIFIC DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
Of course. Everyone deserves to eat well, and if anyone has a specific dietary requirement, let us know. It’s a great idea to ask your guests when they RSVP of their needs. We can easily take care of your gluten free, veggo or vegan guests. We prefer you to order what you want, and we can make menu item substitutions for guests with dietary requirements. Everyone wins.
CAN I ALTER THE MENUS OR PACKAGES?
Absolutely. As we hand make all of our gorgeous canapes and meals from scratch just for you, it is easy for us to accommodate any special requests. We can create any menu combination to suit a range of dietary requirements, tastes and budgets so please feel free to ask. Our most popular menu combinations can be found here. We can also design a bespoke menu for you to suit different themes.
DO WE OFFER A KIDS menu?
Yup. To make it super easy for you to cater for the littlies, we can warm up party pies, sausage rolls and chicken nuggets with sauce for $3.00 per kid. If you provide the party pies and sausage rolls then we'll warm them up for free. We know its not a balanced meal, but it is easier for everyone if they are fed food they're likely to eat with the minimum of fuss.
CAN I MAKe CHANGeS MY MeNU?
Sure can. You are welcome to make alterations to your order anytime up to a fortnight before your event. Please note cancellation policy below.
DO We NeeD TO See YOUR KITCHeN BeFOReHAND?
We have worked in homes, halls, warehouses, bars, breweries and backyards. All we require is access to safe power supply, running water, a sink, an oven, cleared bench space and at least 4 square metres of clear, dry, undercover area to work in. Most home kitchens are a-ok. If your space doesn’t have these kitchen facilities, we may need to do a site inspection. We are happy to work outside, as long as the above are covered. Extra charges apply if we need to hire cooking, cooling and/or cleaning equipment and this is calculated on an individual basis. We are more than happy to work with you to design a menu that can limit these expenses.
CAN We SeT UP YOUR eVeNT?
We are happy to organise hire of tables, chairs, napery, crockery, and cutlery and will be calculated on an individual basis. We can also organise for our event stylist to lay and set tables for you – this will be charged on an individual basis.
CAN I PICK UP MY ORDeR?
We offer free delivery for all our clients in the Melbourne Metro area. We do not offer collection as our service includes wait, prep & cook staff and serving equipment at your event. It's all part of the Fat and Skinny show. One price, everything included.
DO We OFFER TASTe TeSTING?
We don’t offer taste testing. That being said we have plenty of customers who have written rave reviews about our food and service. We take feeding people very seriously! We are more than happy to meet with you and go through your options together.
DO We PROVIDe BAR STaFF?
We are happy to provide smiling people to staff your bar. All our bar staff have a responsible serving of alcohol certificate and are guns at pouring a drink.
We do not have a liquor license so do not offer drinks packages. We do have a handy dandy bar checklist for you (or your minions) to set-up a self serve or manned bar. Checklist Here
So we can provide a smooth running bar service for your party/wedding, could you please ensure that our staff have clear access to the bar (not next to, or blocking access to toilets, other services etc) and that all alcohol is stocked at, or close to, the bar (please note: staff cannot access outdoor cool rooms in inclement weather). Could you please also provide: tea towels, bottle and wine openers, ice tubs, ice scoops, ice, unbroken boxes for recycling, a bin and extra bin liners, access to a dustpan, broom and mop and a bath towel.
Our bar staff will happily man and tidy your bar, while keeping your guests well hydrated, as well as collecting empty glasses and bottles. If you require glass washing, a surcharge will apply. Before they leave, they will ensure that your bar is well stocked and ready for self service to commence.
DO YOU MAKe WeDDING AND BIRTHDAY CAKeS?
Yes. We offer to bake your cake and ice it in either dark chocolate or white chocolate ganache. It can then be decorated with fresh flowers you provide, or a basic toffee decoration. You are welcome to substitute the dessert menu for a decorated cake which we will also cut and serve for you.
CaN We CUT YOUR CaKe?
We can cut and serve the cake you provide for a small cost. It is important that the cake is available for cutting before the speeches start so we can serve it as soon as they are finished.

HOW DO I BOOK?
We can confirm your booking date once you are happy with your quote. We will generate an invoice based on the quote details and organise payment of a deposit from you. The payment of the deposit holds your booking date firm. As we are a boutique catering business and only take a limited numbers of jobs on, paying the deposit guarantees that your booking has priority over any other requests that we receive. During the warmer months we often book out 6-8 weeks in advance, and we want to make sure we will be there for you. We can easily make any changes to the invoice closer to the date of the function time.
Confirmation of your menu selections, definite guest numbers and final payment are required anytime up to a fortnight before your function.
HOW CAN I PaY?
You are welcome to pay with bank transfer, credit card or cash. We do not accept cheques. A non-refundable 40% deposit is required to secure your booking.The deposit guarantees we will be available for your event, and confirms your agreement with the terms and conditions listed on the menus.
We understand that sometimes things can happen which may call for an event to be cancelled. Where an event is cancelled more six weeks prior to your function, a 50% refund of the deposit will be given. If a cancellation of an event occurs 30 days before the event date, no refund of the deposit will be given.
If the venue is unsafe and/or poses a fire, flood, or electrical risk,we have the right to cancel service without refund. In the event of inclement weather, we will endeavour to provide our service but will be unable to do so if it is deemed unsafe. We love a party, but we also love going home safely.
